MUMBAI: Singer-composer Bappi Lahiri, who enthralled Hindi cinema enthusiasts with his disco-infused tunes in the 80s and 90s, became cremated right here in the presence of family, company and industry colleagues on Thursday.
Lahiri, 69, died following more than one health disorders on Tuesday night at the CritiCare Health facility in Juhu.
Police had barricaded the lane of the singer’s Juhu position, Lahiri Rental, with virtually 15 law enforcement officers existing on the bottom to attach watch over the crowd.
Lahiri’s mortal stays with the singer’s trademark shaded sun shades silent intact were placed in an initiate truck, which became embellished with marigold and chrysanthemums flowers.
The singer-composer’s photography were placed in the front and the aspect of the truck with “Bhavpurna Shradhanjali” written on it.
Lahiri’s family, together with companion Chitrani, son Bappa and daughter Reema boarded the initiate truck along with a vogue of relatives.
The truck became followed by a convoy of cars, together with police trucks and two ambulances.
The gap of 10 minutes from his position to the Vile Parle’s Pawan Hans Crematorium became covered in virtually an hour, as the lorry made its arrangement amidst fans and family contributors.
Bappa, who reached Mumbai from the US with his family around 3 AM on Thursday, conducted the final rites, usually breaking down for the length of the rituals.
At the cremation, daughter Reema regarded inconsolable.
From the movie industry, actors Vidya Balan, Shakti Kapoor, Roopali Ganguly, Deb Mukherjee, singers Udit Narayan, Shaan, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, Mika Singh, producer Bhushan Kumar, filmmaker KC Bokadia, who had labored with the composer in his 1990 Amitabh Bachchan starrer “Aaj Ka Arjun”, attended the cremation.
Fondly known as ‘Bappi Da’ by his fans and company from the industry, the 69-one year-dilapidated became credited for revolutionising the disco sound for Hindi movie music landscape in the 70s and 80s and continued to churn out hits in a occupation spanning 5 a few years.
Over time, Lahiri had crafted the image of a pop iconaided by his trademark gold chains that he wore for success, his sun shades and his artistic music in movies like “Chalte Chalte”, “Disco Dancer”, “Namak Halaal” and “Sharaabi”.
Lahiri became identified for his chartbusters like “I am a disco dancer”, “Jimmy Jimmy”, “Pag ghunghroo”, “Intehan ho gayi”, “Tamma Tamma Loge”, “Yaar bina chain kahan re”, “Aaj rapat jaaye to” and “Chalte Chalte”, amongst others.
In the 2000s, Lahiri gave hits equivalent to “Bambai Nagariya”, “Ooh La La” and “Tune Maari Entriyaan”.
